I have been asked many times why did I open The Quilted Goat and where did the name come from? When I try to think of a response, I realize this was many years in the making. My love of quilting started with a little girl (myself) who visited her grandparent‛s farm every summer in Pickardville, North Dakota. I can still remember the friendship quilt that my grandmother put on the bed where I slept with each butterfly block signed by her friends. I would fall asleep every night reading the names assigned to each block and wondering who the women were and what they were like. I now own that quilt and display it each Spring in my own home. As I grew and had a family of my own I fell in love with quilting and the history that it brought along with each quilt. I think of the stories that quilts bring us to remember the past and those who are no longer with us. I have made many quilts signifying events in my life, births, graduations, weddings, etc. Quilts to me are a place in history, large or small, that should be remembered. Now let‛s fast forward to today and why “The Quilted Goat”? My oldest daughter got married in New Orleans and as we were leaving to fly home after all the wedding festivities, I realized I never went to a quilt shop. My husband told me to pick one of the many shops in the area and we could make a quick stop on the way to the airport. That shop was life changing for me. It was the perfect shop in my eyes. It was a little grey house with a white picket fence around it. Its name was The Quilted Owl. The owner even had a small dog inside to greet every customer. It was my vision of a “perfect” quilt store. As we left the store I said to my husband “someday” this will be my dream come true. I have always thought goats are adorable and decided that my vision would have the Goat theme. I hope my shop will be a place of laughter and friendship, a place to relax and enjoy time away from the hussle and bussle of today‛s world. I invite you to come along with me on this new journey of mine and the love of quilting. Make some new friends or reconnect with old ones.
